Best 4th of July Snapchat Lenses & Filters

Snapchat came out as a multimedia messaging app in 2011. Developed by a group of college students, the platform quickly gained traction over the next year. By 2012, millions of “snaps” were being exchanged every day. Fast forward to today, and there are more than 187 million active users.

How does Snapchat work?

Snapchat is essentially a camera app. Available for Android and iOS devices, it allows you to send photos and videos to other users with the tap of a button. Text can also be added to the snap as well. One of the reasons why they became so popular is because of their “disappearing snaps” feature. Unlike other apps, which stores your information, the media that you send through Snapchat is deleted off the servers after a set period of time.

Lenses and Filters

Over the past few years, Snapchat has gained a significant reputation for their lenses and filters. For those who don’t know, these “graphical overlays” let you customize your snap with various effects. What’s neat is that many of them feature augmented reality and face detection technology. If anything, the number of lenses available have only gone up with the release of Lens Studio, a tool that lets anyone make their own.
